The Governors are responsible for 3 core functions:
Setting the strategic direction.
Holding leaders to account for the educational performance of the school.
Ensuring financial health, probity and value for money.

What does the Governing Body do?
Governors are responsible for a number of areas including attainment, finance, policies and procedures. Their role involves working closely with the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure children get the best possible education to enable them to reach their full potential, in an environment where they feel safe, valued and where learning is fun.

Their main functions are to:

• Help set the aims and objectives for the school.
• Help ensure the policies and procedures are relevant and achieve their objectives.
• Set targets to monitor the progress of the school to ensure it is meeting its aims and objectives.
• Be a critical friend to the school and provide a source of challenge and support.

Finance and Staffing Items - This includes:

• approving the budget and monitoring all expenditure
• overseeing the appointment procedure of all staff and policies for their pay, performance management and well-being
• monitoring progress on the finance and staffing aspects of the School Improvement Plan.

Curriculum Items - This includes:

• ensuring that the school provides a wide - ranging and balanced curriculum for all our pupils
• monitoring teaching plans and pupil achievement in order to improve standards and ensure high expectations
• developing and monitoring progress on the curriculum aspects of the School Improvement Plan.

Premises / Health & SafetItems - This includes:

• ensuring that the premises are regularly maintained and meet all safeguarding, security, equality, environmental, and health and safety requirement to keep pupils, staff and parents safe on site.
• helping to develop and monitor progress on the premises aspects of the School Improvement Plan.

Pay Committee and Performance Committee

These committees deal with the performance management and pay of the head teacher and other staff.

Other Committees

There are other committees that do not meet regularly but can be convened if necessary to deal with issues such as grievances, complaints, etc.
