Starting School

Starting school is a big time in any child’s life. It is important to have a look around at the options available to you in order to find a school which suits both your child and you. We are more than happy for you to come and visit us to find out about Cam Woodfield Infant School and to get a ‘feel’ for what we are all about. Please ring the school office on 01453 543535 to arrange an appointment.

Any child who wishes to become a pupil of our school during the academic year will be offered a place on request to the school, provided spaces are available. Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 30 in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. Our PAN (Pupil Admittance Number) is 60. We currently have 136 children in the school (June  2026)

We hope to make that first step into formal education as pleasant and relaxed as we possibly can for your child.

Children are admitted to the school during the academic year in which they reach the age of 5 and leave at the end of the year in which they are 7.

Once your child has been offered a place for September, we will inform you about:

• pre-school fun sessions so that your child can become familiar with the school
• an induction meeting in June where you can gather all the information you will need about your child starting school and have an opportunity to meet your child's teacher
• a home visit for the parent and child with the class teacher 
• visits for children to meet their new class teacher and a few of their future classmates during the Summer Ter. 

We have close links with the Pre-school and these children have opportunities to be part of the school community.

The school follows the admission arrangements as set down by the Local Authority.
